Unity has announced Unity 7 as the next generation of its Editor and runtime, with a focus on faster iteration, modern .NET, AI-assisted workflows and deeper connectivity.
Unity 7 is planned as a continuation of Unity 6 rather than a disruptive rewrite. Unity says the Preview is planned for December 2026, with full release targeted for Q1 2027. The announcement also highlights CoreCLR, .NET 10, C# 14, faster Play Mode and built-in MCP, CLI and API capabilities.
For developers, the important point is continuity: projects built on Unity 6 are not being positioned for a traditional breaking upgrade. The larger change is the development workflow around the Editor, especially faster iteration and AI-assisted tooling.
