Unity’s 2026 Render Pipeline Strategy

Unity says its 2026 render-pipeline strategy puts most new development focus on URP while maintaining HDRP and beginning the deprecation process for the Built-in Render Pipeline.

Unity’s published strategy emphasizes URP performance, build-time improvements, stability, extensibility and new lighting capabilities. HDRP remains supported with a narrower focus, while Unity says the Built-in Render Pipeline deprecation process starts in Unity 6.5 and that it is not recommended for new titles.

Why it matters

This matters for asset creators as much as game teams. A package that relies on Built-in-only materials may remain useful for existing projects, but new products increasingly benefit from a deliberate URP strategy and clearly documented pipeline compatibility.
